What do you need to do to be able to

study in New Zealand?

There are certain common requirements to carry out your studies in New Zealand, although sometimes these may vary depending on your nationality or country of origin.

 

  • Be officially enrolled in an accredited Institution in any city in New Zealand.

  • Obtain medical insurance for the time of stay in the country.

  • Have sufficient funds to cover the initial visa and stay expenses.

  • Apply for your student visa, which will allow you to study and work.

Types of visa in New Zealand

1. Fee Paying  Student Visa

The Fee Paying Student Visa or Student Visa allows you to study in New Zealand for a minimum period of 4 months and up to 4 years.

Among the fundamental requirements to apply for this visa are:

  • You must be enrolled in a course at an educational institution in any government-recognized city in New Zealand for international students.

  • It allows you to work if you are enrolled in a course of at least 14 weeks duration.

  • It offers you the possibility of working 20 hours a week and full time when you are on vacations from your course.

  • The duration of your visa depends on the duration of your course and the holidays organized for it.

2. Visa de trabajo y Estudios (Working Holiday Visa)

The Working Holiday Visa is a visa that allows you to work and vacation for a period of 1 year, where the working period is 6 months. This type of visa is limited for certain countries and to apply for it you must have certain requirements such as:

  • Be over 18 years old and under 31 or 36 years old (it depends on your nationality)

  • The spots available for this visa are limited and vary each year

  • To apply for this visa, you must be outside of New Zealand

3. Visitor Visa 

The Tourist Visa is a type of visa that allows you to travel to New Zealand if you have the following reasons as your purpose:

  • Visit and get to know the country

  • You intend to study for a period of up to 3 months (No job possibilities)

  • Wanting to visit family or friends

 

New Zealand has two types of tourist visa:​

 

1. The Visitor Visa: Allows you to enter New Zealand for the purpose of sightseeing or visiting a family member/friend for a maximum time of up to 9 months.

 

Some of the requirements:

  • It must be requested before traveling

  • No financial support required

  • The fees for this visa vary according to your nationality

 

2. The Waiver Visitor Visa: This type of visa is limited for certain countries, it has the same benefits of the previous visa, however, the time is limited to only 3 months of stay in the country.
